The Roof Is On Fire!! (Fireworks and how to be careful this July 4th!)

Image
“The Roof, The Roof, The Roof Is On Fire!” Please don’t let your Independence Day activities end up with you singing this popular 90's dance song. Fireworks are a fabulous way of celebrating Independence Day, and we all know that children love seeing them. However they can be a very dangerous liability to your roof and home. If you plan on setting off any airborne fireworks this July 4th, please keep a few things in mind: Many times, when fireworks “land” they are still burning. Asphalt shingles may help protect your roof, but not if they are older, possibly damaged or missing (think about the recent storms) Under the asphalt shingles, lies very flammable felt paper and wooden framework And last but not least, fireworks can sometimes go awry and not go in the direction they were pointed to at all Don’t worry though; you can certainly take precautions. Here are some suggestions to keep your roof safe: Inspect your roof prior to July 4th hazards (and repair an...

South Carolina Residents: It's HOT . As we approach Memorial Day Weekend, we are expected to hit high temperatures that will match or break records dating as far back as the inception of our own company, 1950.  And it's only May. We want to make sure you’re informed about how to make the right decisions about your most valuable investment: your home. 1. Flashing Flashing is the roofing around the chimney, pipes or vents that protrude from your roof. In the summer, hot temperatures can cause wood roof rafters, roofing joists and ro...

The 2018 Home & Garden Show, sponsored by Clyde Nettles! The weekend was gorgeous – and we enjoyed visiting with everyone that stopped by our tent at the 2018 Home & Garden Show. In addition to giving away a FREE Yeti cooler (see winner below), we also had tons of Clyde Nettles merchandise to hand out, including balloons, mobile phone pop-sockets, cloth bags, pocket knives, pens and more. Plus we were extremely excited to show off our new shingle display, in addition to our new logo and branded image! Thursday night (opening night for exhibitors), we featured live music from Trent Jeffcoat, who is always a crowd pleaser with his blend of classic rock and country music. On Saturday, the wonderful officers of LIVE PD were at the show, taking pictures with fans and answering all types of “unique” questions (if you haven't seen the show, we highly recommend it!)  On the Monday after the show, we drew the winner of the Clyde Nettles Yeti Cooler – special congratula...
